LMASW Regional Conference Preview: The Future Begins Now: Reimagination in a Time of Change

In August, I had the opportunity to ask Erica Orange, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at The Future Hunters, about her upcoming session at the LMA Southwest Regional Conference.

The Future Hunters is one of the world’s leading futurist consulting firms. As futurists, The Future Hunters’ team identifies and analyzes long-term trends that impact business.

Below are a select questions from our discussion.

What led you down the path to becoming a future hunter?

The Future Hunters is a family-owned business, and my mother-in-law was one of the first female futurists. Before I joined the firm, my family encouraged me to spot patterns by thinking in a different way. They encouraged me to spend three to five years looking at the big picture, identifying patterns and connecting the dots. That then provided me with the framework to put together the puzzle pieces for macro trends.

You’ve spoken about “templosion” for many years. What is templosion and how is it shaping the future?

Templosion is the exponential implosion of “big” time into smaller and smaller chunks. Around 12 to 15 years ago, there were signs indicative of an economic transformation, including artificial intelligence and automation. Then, COVID provided an accelerator effect. To frame my presentation at the conference, it’s important to understand this economic transformation as creating new definitions of time and space, particularly as time, alongside trust and truth, is emerging as one of the new “luxuries” of the future.

What can attendees expect to learn from your session?

To get people understanding where things are moving, I’ll lay a foundation of why certain events are happening in the first place. Then, attendees can expect to learn what they can do now to address the direction things are heading. There will be boundarylessness in the world to come, which will lead to three specific imperatives that I’ll address during the presentation. We’ll also discuss how to leverage technology and how to create a culture that maximizes human potential alongside technological advancement.

Finally, we’ll end with nine key takeaways from current macro trends and how attendees at all stages of their careers can begin putting this knowledge into practice.

Erica’s featured session “The Future Begins Now: Reimagination in a Time of Change” will take place at 9 am CT on Thursday, October 14 at the LMA Southwest Regional Conference.
