LMA President’s Message – December 2021

“Now what?” …It’s back. And it’s back the way it should be – to its traditional inherent meaning of “what’s next?” Legal marketers from coast-to-coast with whom I have connected in the past few months are now consistently asking this question in its “normal” context of how to improve, be better, and do more. Yes, challenges and uncertainty remain, but they have receded considerably. Our profession has reclaimed its traditional optimistic forward-looking attitude.

In our Mid-Atlantic Region, our talented LSC and regional board volunteers are leading in this respect. The recent Legal Technology Bootcamp is a prime example. Numerous volunteers collaborated to bring this four-part series to participants. Top-notch speakers took attendees from determining what the actual business problem was to evaluating a solution and achieving long-term adoption. It culminated with the final installment being a thought-provoking discussion on how to leverage a new solution to develop oneself professionally. The program was 100% forward-looking and focused on advancing to the next level.

A second example of positively asking “now what” is the gestating regional plan for 2022: updating processes, fostering increased collaboration, and offering robust educational, networking and social opportunities, including a regional conference.
