Community Corner: Firms Giving Back

Reported by Stephanie Forbes-Glave

In our regular feature, Community Corner, we highlight some of the great ways that our region’s firms and their staff are giving back to the community. This quarter’s Community Corner focuses on the efforts of Baltimore’s Gordon Feinblatt, LLC.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, Gordon Feinblatt is finding new ways to help its employees support local high school students and educators, beyond the firm’s existing high school internship program and support of career days.

In the spring, the firm completed a series of fun internal fundraisers, including a waffle bar and a raffle to win an opportunity to throw a pie at the managing partner in order to raise funds for Benjamin Franklin High School, a Baltimore City Public School. In partnership with the school system, Ben Franklin works closely with the United Way of Central Maryland to provide additional community services to support student success, including increased access to counseling, an on-site daycare for students with children, and more.

A science teacher at Ben Franklin used the funds to redevelop an outdoor courtyard space into an inviting and stimulating place for students to engage in hands-on learning and to enjoy green space in an otherwise urban setting. In addition to funding the project, Gordon Feinblatt team members spent two days volunteering at the site in June, clearing debris, weeding garden beds, and assembling picnic tables, wheelbarrows, and a storage shed for the students to use.

Thanks to the volunteers at Gordon Feinblatt for helping make their community a better place!
