For many years, staff and attorneys from Crowell & Moring have participated in the Law Firm Tutoring Program for Thurgood Marshall Academy (TMA), an open enrollment charter school based in Anacostia, DC whose curriculum emphasizes elements of law and justice throughout all subject areas.
Approximately every other Tuesday throughout the school year, Crowell invites students from TMA to the firm’s Washington, DC office, where staff and attorneys share dinner with the students before providing tutoring on both practical skills (including personal finance, college preparation, etc.) and skills related to English, writing, history, and law.
The program was held in person this year after being held virtually the prior two school years. Tutors focus on advancing TMA’s mission for all students to develop their own voices and learn skills such as solving complex problems, thinking critically, and advocating persuasively – skills that will serve them well in high school, college, and their future careers. For the last 11 years, TMA has maintained a 100% college acceptance rate.
