Member Spotlight: Danny Jacobs

Danny is a Communications Manager at Miles & Stockbridge in Baltimore, Maryland with a decade of communications experience, having previously worked as a reporter and editor at The Daily Record before being newly introduced to legal marketing over a year ago. He recently attended the February Best of Baltimore virtual meet and greet, the LMA national conference in April, and looks forward to connecting with more regional LMA colleagues.

Tell us how you got involved with legal marketing.

I was a reporter and editor for a dozen years at The Daily Record, a business and law paper in Baltimore. I was in court so much and talked to so many lawyers that I joked I had an honorary law degree. I then went to work in communications at Johns Hopkins Medicine for a few years but was contacted by a recruiter about the communications manager position at Miles & Stockbridge. Once I started the interview process, I realized getting back into law-related was very familiar and comfortable, and I haven’t looked back.

What does LMA mean to you?

LMA is a great resource and place to exchange ideas. I’ve learned that we all have similar issues we’re facing (hello, AI!) and that, while no one may have the all the answers, we all bring different ideas to the table and work toward a common goal. The resources available are incredible and I need to do a better job of availing myself to them.

Tell us a bit more about yourself and what you like to do outside the office.

I have 3 kids under the age of 9 so being out of the office means chauffeuring one or more kids to a birthday party, sporting event, Girl Scouts or school function. But I’ll always try to carve out time to mow the lawn when it’s nice on the weekends and watch the Ravens in the fall.

What have you found to be the most beneficial aspects of your LMA membership?

Going to my first LMA national conference was an amazing experience. It was great to meet people from all over North America and learn during the programming. I also really enjoy the Coffee Talk emails just to see what people are talking about (and learn something in the process).

What have you read recently?

If I’m not reading the newspaper (yes, the actual print version; you can take the reporter out of the newsroom…) I’m probably reading with my kids. My youngest is really into “Spot Goes to the Park” right now. Sometimes, she’ll even let me lift the flaps on the pages.
