What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?
Honestly, I have a complicated history with my heritage. My dad is a first-generation American and consciously brought little of his Mexican upbringing to my childhood, so I soaked up whatever information I could during visits to my grandparents and extended relatives. I wanted so desperately to be a part of the culture, but it was never something my dad seemed very proud of. I am, however.
