Tell us a little about how you got started in the industry, and how you got to where you are now.My business partner and I started out with a Los Angeles-based business development coaching practice. Over the years, we added amazing LMA veterans like Kathleen Flynn and Carmelo Millimaci to our coaching team, we developed Practice Pipeline, PipelinePlus, and other Your Honor Award-winning technologies that enhance BD coaching, and we expanded our client footprint internationally.
Is there an achievement or contribution that you are most proud of?The professionals I’m proud to call my colleagues on the Ackert team, the multiple Your Honor Awards we’ve worked with our clients to win, and personally, my recent induction into the College of Law Practice Management.
What is your passion outside of work (or a favorite hobby)?Karaoke and hip-hop!
What’s helped keep you/your team motivated through the past year?Monthly game nights, twice-weekly check-ins, and regular acknowledgments. Never underestimate the power of positive reinforcement.
What new things have you/your team tried recently? We are excited about our upcoming in-person company retreat, which will be the first time many of the team members have been in the same room since the pandemic.
What trends are you seeing in the industry?Since Covid, many lawyers stepped back from BD, feeling disconnected and limited to virtual interactions. Over the past few months, as the world has reopened, many lawyers have shied away from BD because they are overwhelmed with existing work. Both trends are concerning given that building BD relationships requires nurturing them over time.
