  • U.S. Supreme Court case to be heard this fall

This fall, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case involving a dead Marine, privacy rights at funerals and the 1st Amendment. Case is: Snyder v. Phelps, a very very tragic story for the family, see this link for more info - www.matthewsnyder.org.

The family (who are the plaintiffs in this case) need to raise $36K to pay for court costs and are trying to get the word out to as many Veterans and other people who may want to donate/help, because every donation – no matter how small - will help insure this case is heard and decided. If you are willing, could you please forward this email as you deem appropriate?  Unfortunately, b/c this is not a non-profit, donations are not tax deductable. But donations can be sent through the website above or made payable to "Al Snyder Fund" to the lead lawyer (my client's) law firm at the following address: Barley Snyder LLC, 100 East Market Street, York, PA 17401.

In a nutshell - The Supreme Court has granted certiorari

The trial court reduced the jury verdict to $5 million, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the award of damages altogether

On October 6, 2009, Phelps, et al. asked that the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit order that Mr. Al Snyder be required to pay costs associated with the Phelps' appeal to the Court of Appeals.  The Court of Appeals did not make a decision concerning this request until late in the day, this past Friday, March 26, 2010.  Ironically, the U.S. Supreme Court recently (March 8, 2010) agreed to review the Court of Appeals' decision.  Armed with the knowledge that the U.S. Supreme Court decided to review the case, the Court of Appeals made the decision concerning assessing costs.

    Many thanks!
