Title: Marketing Manager
Firm: Brouse McDowell
Education: University of Akron, B.A., 1998, Public Relations, Business & Organizational Communications
Where did you grow up? Grafton, Ohio
What was your first job? I managed public relations for Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron.
What would you be doing if you weren't in your current job? Mommy blogger and cupcake bakery owner.
What is currently on your iPod? Ga Ga, Lady A, Sinatra, Adele, Elton John, Duran Duran, Cold Play, Madonna ('80s, not now).
Where is your favorite place to go to relax? The Outer Banks with old friends.
What is your favorite TV show? Favorite movie? I am maniacal about “Mad Men.” Movie would have to be” Legends of the Fall” or, more recently, “Bridesmaids.”
What is your favorite cuisine? I adore sushi.
If you were stranded on a desert island, who or what would you want to have with you? Are we talking “Survivor” or “Hunger Games”? My husband – I think he can catch fish with a spear and is always good for a laugh (or Ryan Reynolds, sorry, honey)... and a favorite book. Wait, is there a parachute prize or reward in this scenario?
Who are the most important people in your life? My three boys: husband and sons (7) and (2); my mom; and my sister
What is the first thing you read in the morning? Weather on my smart phone so I know if I should send my children to school in snow boots or shorts, and then my Kindle over breakfast to sneak in a few indulgent pages of my current favorite book.
How did you get into legal marketing? Not through the front door... after a short stint in community bank marketing, I was interested in expanding my experience in professional services and happened upon the position at Brouse McDowell. Legal was a bit daunting from the outside, but I am very lucky to have had such a welcoming firm. At Brouse‟s suggestion, one of the first things I did was join LMA and it has been amazing in helping me find my way, personally and professionally.
What is the best thing about your job? There are many, but my favorite moments are when the attorneys stop by “just to run something by me” which makes me feel that I‟ve succeeded in putting myself out there as an ally (not just the firm marketing person) who has the insight and can collaborate to find solutions.
What advice would you offer a new entrant to the world of legal marketing? Find a legal marketing mentor (through LMA, of course!) to help you through those first few years – the relationships and shared experiences are invaluable.
