LMA-LA Spring 2013 Newsletter
A Note from the President...
 As we sprint ahead towards Spring, I want to take a moment to thank you for the honor of serving as your 2013 President. I look forward to meeting you at one of our programs or events throughout the year. And remember, this is your Chapter, so please feel free to contact me, or any of the 2013 Board Members, with questions, comments, and suggestions throughout the year.
With the fast-paced lives we lead both in the office and outside, finding time for community is a constant struggle. In 2013, I challenge you, as I also challenge myself, to spend more time with your peers and your community. We often learn more when we sit together, than when we sit alone behind a computer screen. At the very least, we are inspired and reinvigorated to achieve more and reach a little further in our daily lives.
My objective for our Chapter is to provide greater opportunities for us to spend time together as a group, not only at our stellar programs, but also through coordinated networking opportunities, purely social gatherings, and community volunteer days. Some new opportunities are on the horizon for members and non-members alike, and I encourage you to take advantage!
Troikas: These coordinated networking opportunities are designed to foster deeper relationships. To participate, simply drop your business card in a bowl at the beginning of a monthly program, and we’ll pair you up with 2-3 other attendees for a non-hosted breakfast, lunch, or coffee meeting scheduled during the time between programs.
Scholarships: In recognizing the extraordinary financial challenges facing many firms and individuals, we will introduce a scholarship program, which will provide free membership (including entrance to all LMA-LA programs, plus our annual CME event) for up to five in-house legal marketers in Los Angeles for the 2014 calendar year. Complete details of this program will be announced towards the end of this year.
Angel sponsorships: As a way to provide our in-house marketers with an opportunity to promote their firm, while giving back to the community, we will, for the first time, add law firms as sponsors of LMA-LA. For Angel Sponsors, half of the sponsorship cost will go directly to our 2013 Charity of Choice, the LA Food Bank, while the firm will receive recognition on the LMA-LA website, as well as on emails regarding programs or other updates. Volunteer Days and Socials: This year, our summer and winter socials will carry a charity component, aimed at giving back to our community through the LA Food Bank. In addition, we will organize a volunteer day for our Chapter, as we put aside our law firm names and give back as a unified community of legal marketing professionals.
It is rare to find a collegial and supportive group like LMA, so I urge you to take advantage of the opportunities above to expand your network. Meet a new LMA peer this month, bounce ideas off of one another, write an article together, get the support you need to make a career move, join your LMA colleagues in giving back to the community, and develop new friends that will last throughout your career and beyond.
