1. How did you start working in the legal industry?
Early in my career, I worked in business development in the insurance industry. When I decided to change industries, I found a natural fit between my insurance-related sales experience and Cummins & White’s insurance practice. My experience opened the door for me, and since then, I have expanded my intimate knowledge of the other practice areas.
2. What advice would you offer to someone new to the industry?
Someone new to the industry should become active in the Legal Marketing Association by attending meetings and most importantly, networking with other professionals in the industry. Similar to what we ask our attorneys to do, I would encourage a new associate to schedule lunch meetings with professionals they meet at the LMA luncheons and ask them to share their wisdom.
3. Why did you join LMA and is it the same reason you are still a member?
It is exactly for the reason I mention above. I was new to legal marketing, and I figured the LMA would offer the most targeted industry insight. It is exactly why I am still a member. There is always something new to learn, and the LMA typically has its finger on the pulse of the hottest topics.
4. What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
I love my two dogs, Blossom and Buttercup, and I donate newsletter writing, design, and production services to Boston Buddies, a Southern California rescue group for Boston Terriers.
5. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not at work?
The list is long and varied, but it always involves keeping active. I enjoy SCUBA diving in warmer waters, snow-skiing in the winter, and running along the Pacific Ocean.
