Writer/PR Specialist, Philadelphia OfficeBallard Spahr, a national law firm with more than 500 lawyers in 14 offices across the country is seeking a Writer/PR Specialist. This individual will be responsible for writing, editing, and proofreading a range of materials, including legal alerts, announcements, newsletters, ads, and press releases. In addition, the person in this role will have PR responsibilities for Ballard Spahr’s nationally recognized Real Estate Department.
We are looking for someone who is creative, resourceful, and able to translate complex subject matter into clean, concise, dynamic copy that can be confidently presented to industry insiders as well as to a general audience. Exceptional knowledge of spelling, grammar, and usage is mandatory. The person in this position must be a detail-oriented problem-solver who is intellectually curious, a facile writer, and able to manage competing deadlines.
Our Writer/PR Specialist must be able to translate our lawyers’ knowledge and accomplishments into press pitches that resonate with industry trade publications and mainstream media outlets. We are looking for someone who knows how to spot a compelling story, how to frame it with reporters, and how to tell it in marketing materials. A background in print journalism is strongly preferred.
The selected candidate will have professionalism, patience, curiosity, and perspective as well as superb writing and editing skills, an absolute dedication to accuracy, and, exceptional time management and organizational skills. Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Writer/PR Specialist will develop and implement targeted media plans; lead proactive media outreach; respond to media inquiries in a timely, professional manner and establish relationships with key editors, reporters, and producers.
Requirements include a bachelor’s degree; a minimum of five years’ media relations or marketing experience; excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills; a solid knowledge of AP and Chicago Manual style; and the ability to work with complex subject matter. Knowledge of the real estate industry preferred.
