- How did you get into legal marketing?
My first job out of college was working as a marketing assistant here at CBLH. I had just graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Business and Technical Writing, and I was interested in possibly going to law school, so the opportunity here seemed like a good fit. I ended up leaving the firm to pursue my JD at Penn, where I realized I didn’t really want to practice. When I graduated, Connolly Bove got in touch and expressed an interest in bringing me back as the manager of communications. I’m very happy to be back!
- Describe one of your best experiences in legal marketing?
It’s probably weird, but I love the process of responding to RFPs. I treat it like a puzzle, and I find being able to provide one of my attorneys with a document or presentation tailored to a specific client or type of representation really fulfilling.
- What is one of your greatest challenges when it comes to legal marketing?
Like many legal marketers, I feel like my department is often stretched incredibly thin. While I appreciate that the attorneys here have so much faith in our abilities, it can be challenging to be pulled in so many directions at once.
- Do you have any words of wisdom to those who are new to the field?
Other firm administrators should be your best allies. Communication and collaboration between departments can make everyone’s lives easier and help you better understand the context of your efforts.
- What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
Anybody who knows me knows that I am pretty much an open book—but I think many people might be surprised to learn that I am a huge sucker for sappy romantic comedies and horrible reality TV programming (think Big Brother, Teen Mom, and anything with a hidden camera).
