Jessica Lister
Director of Marketing
Cantor Colburn LLP
How did you get into Legal Marketing?
I got into Legal Marketing through a friend who is a Legal Recruiter. She told me that Cantor Colburn, an intellectual property law firm, was looking for a marketing director. I had years of experience marketing a national nonprofit and a business school, so it was exciting to take on a new industry. And I am so lucky because intellectual property law is fascinating and my attorneys are brilliant.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy finding as many placements as possible to get out the message that Cantor Colburn provides great counsel to clients every day. And I enjoy learning about our clients’ cool technologies and innovations.
What is one of your favorite pastimes?
Volunteerism is a big part of my life. When I was younger and had more time(!), I did a lot of hands–on volunteering at social service organizations. Now I do PR for my kids’ elementary school and my town’s senior service agency. I also read a lot and enjoy www.goodreads.com to keep track of my “Read, Want to Read, and Currently Reading” book lists.
Pick three words to describe yourself.
I get “perky” a lot, but let’s call it energetic and positive instead. Also, I try to be friendly to everyone I meet.
What was your first paying job?
My first paying job was as a staffer in a U.S. Congresswoman’s office on Capitol Hill.
If you were to take a sabbatical, what would you do with your time?
Volunteer, of course! Preferably abroad and with my family.
If you had a super hero power, what would it be?
Healing. I admire medical professionals very much and wish I had their skills.
What actress would play you in a movie?
I’m a lifelong though darkening redhead, so I’d let Jessica Chastain and Nicole Kidman duke it out and be happy with whoever won.
What is your favorite board game?
We love playing board games in my family, but LIFE and Monopoly are our favorites- along with any card game.
