- How did you get into legal marketing?
Necessity is the mother of invention! In 2005, I decided to start my own law practice. I began to network heavily in order to get the word out that i was looking for new clients.
- Describe one of your best experiences in legal marketing?
I was waiting at the bar for my table to be ready at a local restaurant and began chatting with an acquaintance of mine who was also waiting. I told him that I had started my own law practice, and he introduced me to his dining companion. His dining companion turned out to be the president and general counsel for an international, privately held company. I asked him what his company did and then told him about my law practice. During our conversation, he mentioned that he might be looking for help. The next day, I followed up with him, and the rest is history. That company has been my number one client for six years.
- What is one of your greatest challenges when it comes to legal marketing?
I am passionate about transitioning into doing legal business development on a full-time basis, but I am finding it somewhat challenging to break into the field.
- Do you have any words of wisdom to those who are new to the field?
Keep an open mind and take advantage of every opportunity you have to meet new people. Relationships are everything, and you never know! Do not forget to follow up with people you meet. Be a good listener because if you are too busy talking, you might miss something important.
- What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I am a Penn State alumna and love Penn State.
