Business Development and Practice Group Manager - Wiggin and Dana (New Haven or Stamford, CT)

Wiggin and Dana seeks an experienced Business Development /Practice Group Manager (BDM) focused on practice group management to be based in either the New Haven or Stamford office.

We are looking for a strategic, results-oriented business development manager to drive strategy and identify and implement initiatives for the firm’s practice groups, as well as for the firm’s geographic initiatives. This position will work closely with practice group leaders and with the Marketing and Business Development team to ensure effective client development, marketing, and external communications programs. In this role, the manager, together with the Chief Marketing Officer, is the Marketing Department's primary liaison to the Practice Group Chair(s) and is responsible to build a working knowledge of the firm's specific services, attorney experience, revenue priorities, clients and prospects. The BDM provides guidance and insight to the practice groups and attorneys in successful business development strategies; and will work with the Chief Marketing Officer and other staff members to ensure marketing efforts align with firm and practice group objectives regarding business growth and retention.

The BDM reports directly to the Chief Marketing Office and Practice Group leaders and is responsible for practice group business development, meetings, organization, project management and events. This position has a high level of independent decision making authority within each practice group.

The Business Development/Practice Group Manager will contribute to and ensure execution on the following:

  • Monthly Practice Group Meetings & Follow-Up Action Items
  • Practice Group Strategic Planning & Execution
  • Business Development Plans, Client Management and Marketing Strategy

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, communications, public relations or journalism. Previous experience at a law firm is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and a basic understanding of law firm practice.
  • Ability to lead and influence a team of stakeholders including attorneys, administrative staff, and colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • 3 to 5 years law firm marketing experience, with direct experience in a professional services environment (law firm experience strongly preferred, although other professional service experience will be considered); a strong focus on customer service.
  • Superior organizational and project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, creative, entrepreneurial, team-based culture.
  • An ability to be practical and focused while thinking creatively and completing tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and self-directed behavior.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required. Knowledge of CRMs or ContactEase or proposal software a plus.
