The Legal Marketing Association fosters the personal and professional development of its members through educational opportunities at the international and chapter level. We want to extend this opportunity to individuals whose firms are unable to, or decline to, sponsor their membership and to individuals between jobs or looking to start a career in legal marketing, including college and graduate students. Therefore, LMA-LA has developed the LMA-LA Educational Scholarship program to grant up to two LMA Educational Scholarships each year. The scholarship will include a one-year membership to the Legal Marketing Association, with Los Angeles Chapter affiliation, as well as registration fees for all LMA-LA programs and events, including our annual Continuing Marketing Education (CME) conference. Each scholarship is valued at $1,090. Registration for the LMA International Conference as well as any fees associated with transportation to or parking at LMA events are not included.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants must complete the attached application form and provide relevant personal and professional information, including narrative answers to a series of questions, a current resume, two professional references and a letter of recommendation. Applications are due by 6:00pm PST on November 1, 2013. The scholarship recipients will be notified of their selection on or before December 1, 2013.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants must:
- be currently or recently employed by a law firm or professional services company in a marketing or administrative role or seeking a full-time position as an in-house legal marketer
- provide two professional references that may be contacted for further information and one letter of recommendation – suggested sources are employer, former employer, LMA member or colleague
- not be a past recipient of the LMA-LA Educational Scholarship
- acknowledge that if selected, their name will be announced publicly via the LMA-LA Newsletter and other promotional materials
If selected, the recipient is strongly encouraged to attend at least 50% of the scheduled programs and to be an active participant of a Chapter committee.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The selection committee will be comprised of five members of LMA-LA, including at least one member of the LMA-LA Board of Directors. For a scholarship to be awarded, the committee recommendations must be approved by a majority of the LMA-LA Board of Directors. Although the Selection Committee will attempt to award two scholarships annually, it maintains the right to award less than two or none, depending on the applications received and/or the associations financial reserve status. Committee members with applicants from their firm or company will refrain from voting on that individual.
