President’s Letter

As I continue my tenure as Chapter President, I have grown to have an even stronger appreciation for what makes LMA New England such a special community.  A great example of this is our upcoming Your Honor Awards. We are one of only a handful of chapters in the country that brings together its community yearly to honor the best in class work that our members and their partners created during the previous year.  With the fast-paced nature of our jobs, all too often we never get a chance to catch our breath to fully appreciate what we accomplished before moving onto the next project. Fortunately, our chapter hits that "pause" button for us.

On Tuesday, we will be treated to one of the Chapter’s biggest social gatherings of the year at the beautiful Boston College Club.  Attendees will have the chance to network and share the latest happenings over cocktails and hor d'ourves, while enjoying our own Ellen DeGeneres as our guest MC entertains the crowd with a lively and spirited awards presentation.  I have no doubts that this will be a special evening of fun, laughs and memorable moments.  Many thanks to our chair Katherine Scobbo, along with Liz Cerasuolo and Natacha Vautier, for their exceptional commitment to planning this event over the past few months.

Be sure to check out all of the pictures from the Your Honor Awards and last month’s luncheon on our newly launched Facebook page. Led by the efforts of Caroline Von Flatern, the Chapter overhauled its account last month and delivered a new page to its followers filled with colorful photos, timely chapter updates and upbeat content. We see this reinvigorated platform as a chance for our community to showcase what we are doing in both our professional and personal lives.  Take part in the fun and “like” us today.

In addition to our new Facebook page, the board and committee chairs continue to explore new ways to enhance our offerings for our community. As a result of this, there are some exciting changes and new initiatives on the horizon that I am confident our members will appreciate and find valuable. I won't shower you with details just yet, but be on the lookout for a storm of cool things starting with and highlighted in our next newsletter!

Finally, I would like to personally invite our members attending the Orlando conference to our Welcome Reception that the Northeast Chapter Presidents and Boards are hosting on Wednesday, April 2nd. It will be a great opportunity to socialize with members from our chapter, as well as our neighboring regions.   I also would like to personally thank the Waldorf Astoria-New York for its gracious hospitality in sponsoring this event for the four chapters.

I hope to see everyone at the Your Honor Awards next week. And remember, even if your firm is not being consider for an award on Tuesday evening, take a couple of minutes during the day to pause and reflect on your own accomplishments and the contributions you made to your team(s) and the industry. You deserve it!

Cheers.

Chris

Don’t Miss Next Week’s Your Honor Awards!

Even if you weren’t able to submit an entry this year, the awards ceremony is not to be missed! With great entries from firms large and small, you’ll want to see who takes home the trophies.  Winning entries are kept top-secret until the night of the event, which features a new presentation format. More than ever before, attendees will get an inside look at winning entries. To be held from 5:30-7:30 PM the evening of March 25th, you can register for this popular event here. For questions concerning the Your Honor Awards, please contact Katherine Scobbo at kscobbo@ferriterscobbo.com.

February Lunch Program Re-Cap: Leveraging Ongoing Market Intelligence to Initiate and Sustain Thought Leadership Strategies

DSC_2248 compressed.jpg

The Chapter’s most recent lunch program took place on February 26th at the Boston office of K&L Gates with nearly 45 members in attendance.  At the session, ShiftCentral’s Client Development Manager, Paul Kavanaugh, delivered an informative presentation which focused on leveraging market intelligence to initiate thought leadership.  The presentation detailed topics including Paul’s “content continuum,” how to assess what kind of information is valuable to your clients, repurposing important marketing content through different publishing channels, creating action lists for your attorneys, and how to measure results of your initiatives.  The full presentation, along with Paul’s handout materials, can be viewed by clicking here.

Stop Struggling Against the Current

Anyone who has spent time near the shore knows that if you are caught in a riptide pulling you out to sea, the last thing you want to do is try to swim directly against the current.  Instead, the recommended course of action is to swim parallel to the shore to eventually reach the beach, progressing slowly but surely toward your goal.

In the legal world, this may also be the best way to handle members of your firm who are dead-set on using only the most traditional methods of growing their legal business. Read more…

New England Chapter Remembers Carl Goodman

Carl Goodman, a former moderator at LMA's annual conference and member of the New England Chapter, passed away in January at his home in Rhode Island. Carl was a principal at The Ackert Advisory.

Roger E. Coy, a friend of Carl's, noted: "[Carl had] a sharp mind grounded in both legal analysis and rigor (he had gone to law school) and an innate sense of what made good business development strategy and practice. He was also a tireless worker who had a great sense of humor mellowed by his time working with, for and among attorneys ... Carl will be missed by many."
