On behalf of the 2014 Board of Directors, I’m pleased to invite you to read the first 2014 issue of Capital Ideas. For our newer members who may not be familiar, Capital Ideas is the Capital Chapter’s bi-monthly newsletter dedicated to our mission: to foster our members’ development through education, social events, and peer interaction. In each issue, you will find information and resources that will allow members to do just that.
Thanks to a dedicated Communications Committee, our sponsors, and members like you, we have a fantastic issue in store. In this first issue of the year, we are focusing on trends. From trends in design and social media, to work-life balance, and how mobile trends are affecting legal marketing, this issue takes a look at how trends in technology and culture affect our jobs and daily life.
I’m also very pleased to announce that beginning this month, we will be “serving up” education, socialization, and interaction opportunities with a slice of pizza through our Follow-up Roundtable program. To add value for LMA members this year, we’ll be holding special debrief sessions a week or two after each of our monthly programs. These informal events will serve as an opportunity to debrief or recap some of the highlights from the previous monthly program. Because the format will be a smaller roundtable where attendees can share takeaways and lessons learned – kind of like a book club – these separate events also serve as a great networking opportunity. This is a great opportunity to meet with fellow LMA members in a forum where conversation is encouraged. Our first Follow-up Roundtable gathering will be held on March 4 at 6:00 pm at the offices of McKenna Long & Aldridge at 1900 K Street, NW. (A big thanks to the team at McKenna for hosting!)
I’m also very pleased to share another big opportunity for our members with five or less years of experience: our Future Leaders Special Interest Group. Join us for a brown bag lunch on March 6th at Noon. The topic will be “From Coordinator to Manager: How to Make it Happen.” See the calendar for more details.
Lastly, close your eyes and think of warm and sunny Florida. Sounds good, right? So in addition to fabulous programming, there is another reason you should register for the annual meeting taking place in Orlando from April 2 through April 4!
This is your organization and your chapter, so we want to hear from you! If you want to get involved but are not sure how, or if have any other questions, please contact one of the board members.
Please be sure to monitor our calendar for the many exciting programs and events that you may wish to attend. I look forward to talking with you at our events throughout the year.
