President's Letter

LMA NE had an exciting and busy spring and we are ready to ring in summer! Here is a look back and forward for the Chapter. In April we hosted the LMA NE Cornhole Tournament for charity at Bleacher Bar - the event was a resounding success and a whole lot of fun. Net proceeds from the event were donated to Greater Boston Legal Services. 

In May, our chapter partnered for the second year in a row, with the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS Boston) and the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) for an informative and interactive panel discussion that drew 80+ attendees. Firm leadership from Burns & Levinson, Ernst & Young and Payette shared insights on how marketing and business development is driving value and generating revenue for their firms. 

We were thrilled to have Lauren Stiller Rikleen, renowned author of You Raised Us, Now Work With Us: Millennials, Career Success, and Building Strong Workplace Teams, present at our June luncheon program. Lauren discussed the differences between the Baby Boomers, Gen Xers and Millennials and shared insights and strategies to strengthen multi-generational teams. 

Mark your calendars for two upcoming events on July 26. The LMA NE Summer Social will be held in the evening at Sterling's, 60 State Street, Boston. This is a terrific time to catch up with old friends and meet new colleagues in the industry. Earlier in the day on July 26, we will host the Third Annual LMA NE Boot Camp from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Like last year, this is a complimentary program available only to LMA NE members and space will be limited. Save the date, November 14-15, for this year's LMA NE Regional Conference "Law Firms of the Future:  Navigating for Success," at the Hyatt in Boston.  We invite you to submit program ideas by completing this online form - deadline is July 15.

Future Leaders Boot Camp

We welcome members with less than 10 years of professional experience to join us for the third annual Future Leaders Boot Camp: Communication, Collaboration & Credibility hosted by the 2016 LMA New England Board. The afternoon program will feature by a series of sessions designed to sharpen your professional skills and enhance your role within your firm or company. Attendees will have a chance to learn from former and fellow Future Leaders, managers and directors who have worked in firms of all sizes. Each offers a diverse perspective on the best ways to succeed in the fast-changing legal environment.  The event ends with the opportunity to network amongst your peers and previous LMA New England Presidents.

This year's topics include:

  • Developing the best communication skills for communicating with everyone at your firm, whether in-person, in writing, or in a presentation
  • Collaborating with other departments and understanding ROI
  • Mastering the art of consistency to gain credibility amongst others in your department and the firm
  • How to prioritize projects and when to ask for help
