How did you get into Legal Marketing and the Regional Conference Committee Co-Chair position?
I accepted my first legal marketing role in 2008 at MBBP. My background had been in real estate marketing and despite my mom’s advice to steer clear of the legal industry (she works at a large firm in town) I decided to try my hand at it. I was lucky that my first boss at MBBP saw the connection between the industries. She totally understood that marketing within a service industry (such as real estate or legal) was quite different from product marketing and she gave me a chance. As for the Co-Chair position, that was all Shelley and her sweet persuasive way! Who wouldn’t buy into whatever Shelley’s pitching?? Plus, I had been excited to get more involved in LMA anyway.
What is your favorite aspect of LMA New England?
My favorite aspect of LMA New England is finding solace in knowing I’m not alone in the day-to-day battle that is law firm marketing! In our industry, it can feel like it’s you against the world (aka lawyers) and it’s so good to know that there are others on your “team” fighting the same fight and (hopefully) willing the same war!
Why should people be excited about this year’s Regional Conference?
This year we’ve tucked a little fun into every aspect of the conference. I know it’s always been a great event, but I’d like to think we’ve added some extra Kapow! Expect a lot more interactivity.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I recently won a Mirror Ball trophy in a local Dancing Like a Star ballroom dance fundraiser to benefit Haven From Hunger! I’d never danced ballroom before so I joined the fundraiser and learned 5 ballroom and Latin dances in 4 weeks. My rumba with my partner/coach Zach earned the Mirror Ball and the fundraiser collected $15,000 for the organization. (If you feel the need to be entertained you can watch it here!)
If you could pick any place to live, where would it be?
I’m a Boston snob. Even though I love to travel I wouldn’t move from this region for all the money in the world. I love our four seasons, our great sports teams and our beautiful city.
If you had a superhero power, what would it be?
A fitting question based on this year’s conference theme! If I had a superhero power, I would choose telepathy. Wouldn’t it be great to know exactly what someone else is thinking?
