Public Relations Manager - Mintz Levin (Boston)

The Public Relations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s PR communications efforts to further increase the visibility of the firm, key practices and individuals by leveraging the expertise of attorneys throughout the firm through media coverage and other thought leadership.  This individual will also oversee select internal communications initiatives.  The position is based in Boston; however, it includes interaction with staff and attorneys across all of the firm’s offices, as well as with outside vendors.  This role reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications. 

Responsibilities:

Public Relations

-Interface with Business Development professionals and attorneys to develop pitch ideas, identify trends and other newsworthy items on an ongoing basis as a means to developing PR content.

-Monitor news outlets for content relevant to the firm’s practices and identify opportunities for commentary.

-Draft communications materials including but not limited to:  media pitches, press releases, byline article abstracts.

-Keep apprised of best practices for PR generally and within the legal industry and provide recommendations for improvement/enhancement.

-Leverage existing media relationships and develop new contacts within business and industry media.

-Provide direction and oversight to outside PR agency

-Prepare attorneys for media interviews, including conducting media training and actively participating in meetings with reporters

-Manage media inquiries and interview requests.

-Oversee internal PR conflict process.

-Assist on crisis communications strategy and execution as needed.

-Assist with developing a marketing communications plan including strategy, and budget.

-Assist with developing and implementing the Firm’s media relations strategy.

-Assist with the collection of data and submission of firm surveys.

-Obtain reprint rights and coordinate approvals and posting of third party publications.

-Coordinate and draft attorney nominations for third party recognition opportunities.

-Draft bi-weekly PR summaries for firm distribution.

Internal Communications and Special Events

-Manage and coordinate select internal communications initiatives.

-Assist in planning and executing annual partner retreat.

-Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

 
Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or Journalism preferred.

-7 years related work experience in communications with an emphasis in PR, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.

-Experience in identifying, developing and executing PR content with a strong sense of what will be of interest to reporters and editors and will generate impactful coverage.

-Existing media relationships with both local and national business and industry outlets and demonstrated ability to cultivate new relationships.

-Ability to conceptualize and execute story pitches.

-Event planning experience.

-Strong knowledge of social media platforms with emphasis on application to business environment.

-Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to influence others.

-Excellent attention to detail and strong writing skills with emphasis on accuracy and quality.

-Must have the ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment and prioritize multiple projects on a daily basis.

-Creative and proactive approach to problem solving.

-Ability to collaborate and gain the respect, trust and confidence of the Firm’s attorneys and professional staff.

-Must display the highest level of diplomacy, tact and discretion.

-Strong sense of urgency and a high-energy level.

-Must have a “hands-on” tactical approach, with ability to be a strategic thinker.

-Outstanding sense of customer service.

-Comfortable handling and maintaining highly confidential information.

-Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.  Ability to quickly get up to speed and master new applications and software is critical.
