We are searching for an experienced public relations professional to join our Business Development and Marketing Team as a Public Relations Specialist. The Public Relations Specialist organizes and executes communications and media relations activities. The position is responsible for executing media relations activities, writing and editing press releases, assisting with social media activities and compiling analytics for firm management. The position will also include writing and editing bylined articles, practice descriptions, web copy, newsletters, client alerts, brochures and ads.
The Specialist must be able to communicate and coordinate with high level executives and contacts, both internally and externally, in a professional and positive manner. In addition, s/he must be willing to accept ownership of projects and be successful in driving those projects, as well as daily tasks, to a successful conclusion. It is essential that this person be a self-starter and able to work well both in a team environment as well as independently. This role is expected to be a substantive contributor to the outcomes described and must ensure that excellent client service and client satisfaction are attained in all areas. In addition, in accordance with the firm’s Client Service Initiatives, the Specialist must consistently display good judgment and have effective interpersonal communications. Confidentiality and discretion are required consistently.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide national and local media relations and media counsel to practice groups within the firm
- Cultivate and manage media relationships with writers, reporters, editors, and producers in local, regional, national, and international markets
- Work with the Senior Communication Manager in developing, driving and executing strategic communication campaigns including proactive media relations, digital and social content projects and award programs in support of key practice groups and firm goals
- Working with others to develop the strategies and messaging for various practice groups.
- Leverage traditional media as well as digital/social media for PR programming and influencer outreach
- Create and manage content for external communications
- Write and edit a broad range of content for a variety of marketing uses (e.g. media releases, web copy, newsletters, brochures and ads)
- Write and/or edit client alerts, blog posts and materials created by attorneys and members of the communications team
- Monitor projects to ensure that deadlines and quality standards are met
- Set and meet campaign measurement and evaluation criteria
- Support branding and visibility initiatives
- Work with the Senior Communications Manager to ensure specific, measurable marketing goals within specific budget and resource parameters are achieved
- Create and maintain copy and collateral for external and internal communications
- Conduct research on online marketing for new trends, platforms, and strategies
- Coordinate event and webinar execution and support (internal & external)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Previous public relations, media relations, and social media experience
- Advanced writing skills, ability to write for senior level management and a wide variety audiences, and proficiency in editing and composition
- Proven ability to in writing press releases, communication plans, executive speaking points, social media content, etc.
- Proven relationships with the media
- Articulate, poised, personable and quick on your feet
- Fluent knowledge of, and experience in working with, AP Style
- Excellent Microsoft Office Skills (specifically Outlook, Word and PowerPoint)
- Ability to identify and develop compelling story ideas and messages
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and successfully to ensure all tasks are completed on time
- Strong social media skills with an understanding of how new media helps drive client engagement
- Able to create vision for content marketing through blogging and other firm branded sites
- Experience working with social media such as: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and blogging technology
- Is responsive and sensitive to internal and external client demands and deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve
- Able to work to work with all levels of firm management and with external vendors
- Ability to adjust and adapt quickly to changing situations
- Ability to interact with people in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Journalism, public relations or communications major preferred
- Minimum of four years of previous public relations experience
- Experience working in public relations agency or professional services firm a plus
- Strong media relations skills and media contacts and familiarity with the newest media outlets
- Solid writing, editing, project management and communication skills are a must, as well as attention to detail
- Digital and social media savvy
- Proven ability to provide polished counsel
- Fluent knowledge of, and experience in working with, AP Style
- Understanding of PR reporting and analytics a plus
- Strong networking skills
