POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for strategically executing various regional and practice/ industry group marketing initiatives in the Philadelphia, Princeton and Wilmington offices.  The Regional Marketing Manager is the senior marketer in the region, and as such, must be visible, responsive, approachable, flexible and proactive. Must have an in-depth knowledge of the local legal markets and working knowledge of industries and practices that have a presence in the Philadelphia, Princeton and Wilmington offices. Must develop strong relationships with office leaders, attorneys, other departmental managers and the global business development team to ensure that marketing plans integrate with and support firm-wide, practice and industry group strategies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Build the Brand: Drive strategic development and implementation of marketing and business development activities  that build the Reed Smith brand within the regional markets of Philadelphia, Princeton and Wilmington including: community support and practice development sponsorships, client educational and entertainment events, client development and pitch opportunities and alumni outreach.  Work with Public Relations and Branding & Communications teams to support advertising and public relations initiatives.
  • Develop Business: Work with the Office Managing Partners (OMPs), local partners and other departmental managers to generate business leads, expand existing client work and drive cross-selling and new business development. In collaboration with Business Development, assist with implementation of individual marketing plans for local attorneys/groups. Work collaboratively with all other marketing team members to achieve the firm’s marketing and business development objectives.
  • Manage Budget: Work with the OMPs and PHL and Princeto Practice Development Committee to manage regional marketing budget matters, including analysis of office financials, consultation on local marketing budget development (define priority programs for funding); monitoring actual expenditures versus budget; evaluating expenses; (re)classifying expenses; maintaining budget files; contacting Accounts Payable with questions or to request investigation; verifying expenses and invoices; and preparing check requests.
  • Client Event: Work with the OMP to develop and manage regional market client entertainment events and client receptions, and in coordination with U.S. Events team, execute according to established best practices.  This may include site selection, mailing list development and circulation of same, tracking RSVPs, logistics for guest reception, on-site management, and follow-up with targets. Regional entertainment may be on behalf of practice groups, OMP or industry-related groups. 
  • Legal Industry Marketing: Monitor competitive developments within the region and recommend marketing responses in consultation with the U.S. Director of Regional Marketing and Events.
  • New Attorney Integration: Represent Marketing department to new attorneys and staff members during new-employee orientation and collaborate with business development, OMP, recruiting and integration partners to facilitate appropriate introductions and assist with action items in regards to lateral integration plan.
  • Client Pitching: Work as the project manager for preparation of custom and semi-custom pitches for attorney meetings with current and prospective clients, including strategic collateral selection and assembly of same, creating PowerPoint presentations, overseeing production of materials, and editing, proofreading, and updating presentations as directed.  Provide support as needed to the Business Development teams and Proposal Manager in coordinating, facilitating delivery and production of pitch materials.
  • Trade Association/Board Involvement: Gather information from attorneys regarding membership opportunities in regional business and/or trade organizations and maintain an attorney board affiliations database.  Collaborate with OMPs and various Firmwide Practice Group Leaders and Business Developers to identify participation opportunities in regional business and/or trade organizations and boards; evaluate succession opportunities.
  • CLE Event Support: In coordination with relevant Business Developer, plan and execute logistics of on-site regional client education programs and virtual events, such as teleseminars and webinars.  This would include CLE accreditation, event registration, materials preparation, equipment and conference room reservations, virtual logistics and guest reception and hospitality.
  • CRM System Support: Master the firmwide technology systems such as CRM, Cvent (event management software) and all others as introduced by the KM., pitch and website teams.  Maintain relevant regional contact information in the CRM system, track all regional pitches and significant client activity, assist with data entry, list building and overall content management.
  • Collatoral: Oversee external local/regional marketing vendor relationships. Work with in-house Graphics Team to prepare appropriate community support advertisements, invitations, and other collateral.
  • Research: Facilitate requests for client & prospective client research, competitive intelligence and other financial figures with the Client Intelligence Team.
  • Other Duties: Attend monthly attorney/partner meetings in each office, and assist OMPs in agenda preparation as needed.
  • Work with the U.S. Regional Marketing team to cover projects in other U.S. markets as needed
  • Supervise regional marketing specialist on all aspects of their daily responsibilities as needed.  Assign tasks and follow-up on results.  Set goals for direct report, monitor progress, and evaluate on a yearly basis. Ensure compliance of best practices in all respects.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

College-level training in Marketing or related field or related experience. Legal industry experience a plus.

Experience:

Seven (7)  plus years’ experience in Legal Marketing or professional services preferred in a coordinator or supervisor role requiring independent work and demonstrated project & personnel leadership.   

Skills:

Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Ability to work with little supervision.  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  Must have high degree of poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts.  Ability to prioritize workload and solve problems quickly.  Must be able to assist individuals of various levels with needs and problems and react to difficult situations appropriately.

OTHER

Supervisory Responsibilities: Regional Marketing Specialist.

Equipment To Be Used:  Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, fax, machine, copier, scanner, etc.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephones and other office equipment.

Typical Mental Demands:  Requires the ability to multi-task and handle projects from various individuals.  Must also address diverse issues on a daily basis.  Must be able to handle stressful situations and interact with various personalities at all levels in the Firm.  Must be able to make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations.  Must be able to grasp and apply new ideas. 

Working Conditions: Occasionally called upon to work in excess of 40 hours per week.  Works in a typical office setting. Minimum monthly visits to the Princeton and Wilmington office are required to attend meetings and on an as-needed basis determined by local projects
