Why Attorneys Should Embrace LinkedIn and How They Can Leverage it as a Business Development Tool

From Facebook to Twitter to Pinterest, there are a wide range of very popular social media platforms, each of which has varying degrees of value to lawyers and law firms. Yet, LinkedIn stands alone as the one social networking platform that every attorney should embrace. The ABA reports that 95% of its members are on the platform, but there are many lawyers who will tell you that their LinkedIn account has done nothing for them. That’s because just having an account on LinkedIn is not sufficient for success.

Phil Nugent will discuss how LinkedIn is the largest and most detailed database of businesspeople and professionals available anywhere, why it’s the perfect social networking platform for lawyers, and why every attorney should not just be “on” LinkedIn, but should be using it on a regular basis as a business networking tool. Phil also will discuss how attorneys can manage their account settings for their preferred levels of privacy and efficiency, how they can build their network, and how they can actively engage on LinkedIn while maintaining their professionalism and keeping their time commitment to a minimum.

About the Presenter: Phil Nugent
Phil Nugent is the managing director of NCG Strategic Marketing, a full-service marketing firm focused on helping law firms develop and execute their marketing, public relations and business development plans. Previous to starting NCG in 2009, Phil was the Director of Global Marketing for Prologis, a Fortune 500 commercial real estate firm. His responsibilities there included developing marketing communications, speechwriting for the CEO, managing a corporate website redesign project, drafting press releases, and corporate branding work. Prior to this, he worked in the areas of marketing, business strategy and Web technology for a variety of organizations, and immediately following law school, Phil worked for a government contractor to the U.S. Department of Justice. Phil has an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a J.D. from the College of William & Mary and a B.A. from the University of Virginia.
