Planning Successful Projects
Design Thinking — Stage 2 (Define)

Increasingly, law firms are adopting the project management (PM), matter management and process improvement strategies used in other industries to maximize efficiencies on client-related and internal projects.

So, which method(s) will work for your firm? There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but teams that succeed have well-defined goals, and employ processes that are aligned with their strategic plan and culture.

Our program this year is based on Design Thinking, a simple and unique model for solving problems. Last month's session focused on Empathy, the first of five stages of Design Thinking. We learned how professional services strategists use empathy to understand an issue, build credibility and set the stage for building solutions.

In our next session, we will examine the second stage, Define, which involves analyzing the findings of the Empathy stage to articulate and refine a precise description of the problem(s) to be resolved. Each of our speakers brings a unique approach to maximizing efficiencies through defining scope and ensuring projects and processes stay focused.

Join us on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 to hear how your peers drive successful projects in ways that comply with their firms’ unique cultures.

Speakers:

  • Gordon Vala-Webb, Principal  at Building Smarter Organizations
  • David Cohen, Lead Director, Client Service Delivery at McCarthy Tétrault
  • Melissa LaFlair, Founder at LaFlair Legal and Project Management Services
  • Emily Wesson, Legal Project Manager at Norton Rose Fulbright
