Nineteen years ago, when I was an intern at Jaffe Associates while attending American University's Washington Semester, I never imagined the path I would take that would ultimately lead to my writing this column.
I've lived in Japan, worked as a financial consultant for Salomon Smith Barney and Riggs Securities, and otherwise tried to figure out what I wanted to do. Nearly 11 years after finishing up my internship, I returned to legal marketing and found a career. I have been a member of LMA since, and it has contributed greatly to my growth and success.
Every effort I have put into LMA has come back two-fold and I remain convinced there is no better organization to which legal marketers and legal services vendors can belong. Looking out over 2012, there are a number of offerings and initiatives in place designed to enhance the member experience, and I hope you will take the time to share, get involved and benefit from LMA.
New Bylaws
If you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to review and ratify our new Chapter bylaws. The Bylaws are being revised in light of changes to Illinois law (the Chapter is incorporated in Illinois) and to conform to the recently-changed LMA International Bylaws. The new Bylaws will enable the Chapter to more effectively operate. They are also one of several enhancements that all LMA Chapters are taking with respect to good governance practices. I am truly honored to help set the course for the Capital Chapter in 2012. I look forward to seeing you at programs and social events throughout the year.
