LMA New England is excited to feature Ashley Morris, Business Development Specialist at K&L Gates LLP, as our Member Spotlight this month.
How did you get into Legal Marketing?
I have worked in law firms since graduating from college - first as a paralegal in a mid-sized firm and later in the finance department of K&L Gates. As I gradually decided law school wasn’t for me, I pursued a marketing opportunity with a non-profit and decided marketing/ business development was for me! I started in business development with K&L in January of 2013 and I am so happy with the move.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
After spending time paralegaling and working in the finance department of a law firm, I have a great appreciation for the space I now have for creativity and the way my job develops over time. I’m able to build on processes, work on many different kinds of projects, and constantly interact with my colleagues. I like not knowing exactly what is going to happen over the course of the day. It keeps things new and exciting.
What is one of your favorite pastimes?
Traveling and exploring the outdoors with my family.
Pick three words to describe yourself.
Open-minded, considerate, determined
What was your first paying job?
My first paying job was at “Candy-go-Nuts” in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. If you’ve ever taken a ferry to the Vineyard, you may have stopped in for a candy or ice cream fix before boarding!
If you were to take a sabbatical, what would you do with your time?
I’d travel south and learn to windsurf!
If you had a super hero power, what would it be?
The ability to travel through time - it has always fascinated me.
What actress would play you in a movie?
Someone said Sarah Chalke once before, so I guess I’ll go with her!
What is your favorite board game?
Pictionary! Hands down. I could play for hours, and I do!
What are you most looking forward to about being in the 2014 LMA-New England Future Leaders Fellowship program?
As a new member of the Fellowship program, I’m looking forward to learning as much as I possibly can from veterans of the industry. I’m also looking forward to making a few new friends!
