This month’s Hot Links column looks at blogs about work/life balance. It seems that everyone has different ideas on how to achieve a better balance, giving the proper priorities to work and lifestyle. 1. The New Perfect…a fresh approach to having it all

This blog about work/life balance is written by two women, Becky Beaupre Gillespie, an award-winning journalist and Hollee Schwartz Temple, a law professor with a master’s degree in journalism. They are the work/life balance columnists for the ABA Journal and their blog is a good mix of posts for lawyers and non-lawyers about how to live a life where it is possible to have a fulfilling career and a full personal life. One of the ways to accomplish this, according to the authors, is to accept that “Good enough is the new perfect.” The blog is written with warmth and humor and is filled with stories that provide a realistic perspective on what it means to “have it all.”
2. The Work/Life Balancing Act

In one sentence, blogger Cindy Krischer Goodman pretty much sums up the best way to achieve work/live balance: “If we really want better work life balance, we are going to need to trade super-productiveness for sanity.” Cindy writes The Work/Life Balancing Act blog for the Miami Herald where she covers a broad range of topics including time management, career advancement, gender equality and job stress. The blog includes a very interesting with Sheryl Sandberg’s husband, David Goldberg, who is the CEO of Survey Monkey. Between his job and hers as the COO of Facebook, they have to do a lot of careful planning, including having a family calendar, to maintain any sort of work life balance. There also is an excellent article about how a spouse can doom your work live balance success and offers suggestions for how spouses can be more supportive of each other’s career choices.
3. WorkAwesome:; Work Better. Live Better

Tina Su of Work Awesome curates articles about living well and working well. Some more recent articles include The Benefits of Procrastinating, How to Avoid the risks of Freelancing, How to Challenge Your Boss and Be Loved For It, and my personal favorite, How to Stop Fearing The articles are written by a variety of authors and each includes some sage advice about improving your life, both professionally and personally.
4. Good Life Project

This project, started by Jonathan Fields, is based on his philosophy that “Building a substantial business doesn’t make you happy. Your ability to cultivate meaning and happiness fuels great endeavors.” The theme of his blog is “Don’t Just Build a Living, Build a Life.” The blog provides articles, web shows, tips, tools and strategies shared by multiple people on how to live a meaningful life. A couple of the web shows on the blog are Book Yourself Solid…With the Right People by Michael Port and Helping Women Ask for What They Need by Wokie Nwabueze.
