On the Ninth Day of Social Media, your SIG Leaders gave to you, Nine Necessary Blogs!

Blogs are one of my favorite forms of social media, so I’m happy to present to you today our nine necessary blogs! While there are so many valuable blogs out there, we managed to narrow it down to our top nine.

1. Bad for the Brand:

I first heard about Bad for the Brand when its author, Jonathan Fitzgarrald, handed me a business card with the address on it. Jonathan describes his blog as “Drawing real-life examples from some of our favorite personalities in entertainment, politics, and business, BAD for the BRAND ™ provides commentary and advice on managing and promoting a strong, personal brand.” It’s one of the only blogs that I’ll drop everything to read when a new post comes through my reader.

2. The Legal Watercooler:

Heather Morse-Geller’s blog, The Legal Watercooler, was one of the first I followed in the legal industry, and it’s been an invaluable resource. Heather describes it as “a place where we can grab a cup of coffee and share in a little bit of industry chat,” and she uses the platform to discuss everything from social media to business development, to marketing and more, infusing each post with personality.

3. Real Lawyers Have Blogs

If you're in the legal blogosphere, you know, Kevin O'Keefe, CEO & Publisher of LexBlog, the industry's leading legal blogging and social media solution. So it simply makes sense to read Kevin's insights into marketing and social media. Kevin believes strongly in using blogs "offensively" to build relationships, which makes this a must read.

4. Marketing Brain Fodder

Looking for a smart resource on marketing and communication for the legal industry? Then look no further. Eric describes his blog as "Conversation is a critical cornerstone of dynamic relationships. For anyone attempting to connect and communicate — whether at a personal, team or community level — the higher quality the dialogue, the more dynamic the connection. And the better the fodder, the better the conversation. That’s where we begin here. Our preoccupation is the multi-faceted discussion of marketing and business development." Brilliantly written, and a must add to your blog reader.

5. Cordell Parvin Blog

Cordell Parvin uses his experience as an attorney to disuss another essential topic - that of rainmaking. His blog says "Drawing on 36 years of experience as a construction law rainmaker, Cordell Parvin works with lawyers and law firms to develop the next generation of great attorneys. He guides lawyers in finding the right attitude, setting appropriate goals, developing strategies for time management and building networking skills."

6. Virtual Marketing Officer

Our virtual marketing officer, Jayne Navarre, discusses a variety of topics over on her blog, often going into great depth to analyze the core issues. Jayne says "Virtual Marketing Officer, published by Jayne Navarre, Director of LawGravity LLC, is a blog covering marketing and business development strategies for law firms."

7. Corcoran's Business of Law Blog

Tim Corcoran's Business of Law blog is a must-read, and I'm not saying that just because he's a friend of mine. Drawing on his experience in legal technology and legal marketing, Tim's not afraid to call it as he sees it, offering intelligent and thoughtful commentary on topics such as law firm marketing and management, and legal project management, among others. Run, don't walk, over to the Business of Law Blog.

8. Myrland Marketing Minutes

If you know me well, you might know that Nancy Myrland and I are thick as thieves. So I can recommend her Myrland Marketing blog without hesitation. Nancy focuses on strategic social media for law firms, and keeps us thinking about the best way to serve our clients and support our businesses through social media. Nancy is also one of our five funky fearless leaders here at the Social Media SIG.

9. Zen & The Art of Legal Networking

It feels like cheating, but I'm also including my own blog, Zen & The Art of Legal Networking - thanks to the endorsement of my fellow co-leaders when we put together this list. In February, I'll be celebrating four years of insights and commentary on relationship building within the International Lawyers Network, and authoring the blog has been a great joy for me. It's most popular for the extensive re-caps I share from webinars and conference sessions that I've attended - I love to share the expertise of my talented colleagues, friends and clients!

And stay tuned friends...on Friday, we'll be gathering to wrap up our 12 Days of Social Media with a Google Hangout that will serve as our holiday party!

Eight Enlightening Videos…

Seven Social Podcasts…

Six Scintillating Webinars…

FIVE (Funky) FEARLESS LEADER Videos…

Three Thrilling Photos…

Two Terrific Liaisons…

…and a Community Page in a pear tree.
