Description:
The Business Development Coordinator will assist with the coordination and implementation of business development strategies for Reed Smith’s Corporate & Transactional Advisory Group (CTAG), the principal practice groups housing the firm’s Capital Markets, Corporate Governance, Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits, Emerging Growth / Venture Capital, M&A, Private Equity, Private Fund Formation, Transactional Tax and Wealth Planning practices. This professional will work with other marketing and firm personnel to draft pitches and proposals, drive event planning, complete research and analysis, assist with marketing communications, and maintain CTAG documents, reports and systems. The Business Development Coordinator will serve as a core part of the CTAG Business Development team, assisting with sector specific initiatives and contributing to a number of shared projects, in addition to interacting with attorneys.
Essential Functions:
- Partner with CTAG leadership team, other attorneys and BD Team to develop and support business development, key account management, marketing, and client relations’ efforts to grow revenue in new and existing clients.
- Collaborate with firm resources to prepare market research and client analysis to identify industry trends and new business development opportunities; perform client analysis within their assigned area of responsibility to identify new business opportunities; find synergies with other firm practice areas; assist attorneys in pursuing leads.
- Assist with drafting and developing customized pitch materials, presentations and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Assist attorneys with presentation preparation by compiling industry-specific expertise and representative experience. Assist with drafting and editing marketing collateral, including practice area descriptions and attorney biographies for print, website and intranet; post updates to firm website and intranet as required.
- Support practice and firm marketing and public relations initiatives, including awards/directories submissions, with assistance from the marketing group.
- Cataloging and assisting with thought leadership opportunities, including speaking engagements and writing and blog postings—both for Reed Smith publications and externally with professional and trade organizations.
- Develop relationships with key attorneys and maintain a high level of interaction with them.
- Collect deal/case/matter information and maintain databases, spreadsheets.
- Manage and effectively utilize CTAG client information through the firm’s CRM system; including maintenance of group mailing lists and tracking new business opportunities within the firm’s CRM.
- Assist in coordination and strategic planning related to local and national conferences, client seminars and targeted sponsorships including budgeting and tracking associated costs. Monitor and report on return on investment.
- Work with the senior BD and CTAG leadership to integrate lateral partners into the practice.
- Work as an active member of a team to ensure a quality professional product as well as the delivery of materials within established timeframes.
- Assist practice group and BD team with special projects, as assigned.

Working Conditions: Sometimes called upon to work in excess of 40 hours per week. Works in a typical office setting. Limited travel may be required.

Requirements:
Education: College degree in business, marketing or related field required. JD or MBA a plus, but not required.
Experience: Three to five years’ experience in a marketing-related field required, including at least one year of business development experience and demonstrated project leadership. Law firm, consulting or other professional services experience preferred. Previous marketing, public relations, events or media experience a plus, as well as an interest in and ability to understand the legal business environment, including industry terminology. Must have demonstrated experience working independently as well as within cross-functional teams in a collaborative, professional environment.
Skills: Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as willingness to learn database systems. Must be detail oriented, proactive and self-directed with ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities under tight deadlines. Sound professional judgment and a high degree of poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts. Demonstrated ability to establish effective firmwide working relationships with individuals at all levels. Must be able to react to difficult situations quickly, effectively and diplomatically. Exceptionally strong organizational, project management and problem solving skills are required for this role.
