Artificial Intelligence and Legal Industry Technological-Innovation

Growing up in Silicon Valley, technology-innovation and innovative-technology was all around me. My Girl Scout outings were to tech companies to play with their “toys” (onsite free video games = badge). Coming from this environment it is not surprising that early in my career I worked for a high-tech entrepreneurial support organization that helped start-ups make their dreams come true. I had the best job – partnering with entrepreneurs to follow their passion.

Fast forward a few years….I am now thinking about law firms and legal marketing, and how we can use technological-innovation for market disruption, business efficiency and client service. LMA too has prioritized this topic through its 2017 goal to be the leading provider of legal marketing professional development opportunities including offering educational opportunities around our industry’s “Next Big Thing.”

The legal marketing “Next Big Thing” was identified by LMA Hall of Fame members Mark Greene and Elonide Semmes as artificial intelligence. With artificial intelligence/cognitive systems revenues forecasted to surge from $8 Billion in 2016 to past $47 Billion in 2020* our industry leaders are clearly onto something.

As LMA Mid-Atlantic Region Hall of Fame members Ezra Crawford and Nathan Darling said, we are our firm’s leadership and we should always be pushing the envelope, and leading change and innovation. My question for you is how can we use artificial intelligence for technology-innovation to lead change?

In this issue of our LMA Mid-Atlantic Region newsletter and in our region’s November Local Group speaker series “Artificial Intelligence: What It Means for the Legal Space and Your Role in Legal Marketing”  with Mark Greene, we explore artificial intelligence and our industry. Hopefully idea sharing and brainstorming will help you lead your firm/company’s “Next Big Thing.”
