In today’s digital world, social media need to be a part of any strategic marketing plan.  The web sites and articles discussed below offer some insights into how to effectively integrate social media into a marketing plan to achieve the best results.

  1. The Digital Spark Marketing blog published an article, “8 Popular Initiatives for a Social Media Marketing Strategy,” that discusses and provides examples of popular initiatives that companies are using with their social media efforts:  soliciting opinions, voting on favorite things, co-creation of products and services, pictures of customers with products, new application introduction/usage, use of videos, promotions, and content.

  2. In the article “Your Social Media Marketing Initiatives Must Start with Strategy” on the Marketing Profs blog, author Stephen Monaco discusses the necessity for companies to develop a plan for the strategic use of social media.  The objective is always to effectively use social media marketing to help a business thrive.  As with all marketing plans, social media marketing strategies and initiatives must be aligned with the company’s overall business objectives.  By developing a social media plan aligned with the company’s goals, marketers can then develop the social media initiatives needed to achieve those goals. The article goes on to discuss various types of social media marketing goals and the metrics that can be used to define success.

  3. In “How to Execute a Successful Social Media Marketing Initiative,” on the blog Search Engine Journal (SEJ), the author discusses the importance of social media, why social media marketing can fail, and several initiatives that can help start a social media marketing program.  The article provides a very helpful list and a brief discussion of some of the more popular social media sites.

  4. From the Digital Journal blog, the op-ed article “Ten Powerful Social Media Marketing Strategies that Work” discusses the importance of having a social media strategy as part of any marketing plan.  As author Claire Morrison writes, “the social web is a powerful platform for communication, entertainment, and productivity.”  Not all of the strategies presented will work for law firms, but many will; and they do provide good insight on how to effectively use social media to promote your brand.
