Reed Smith LLP, a global relationship law firm with more than 1,800 lawyers in 26 offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, is seeking a Business Development Coordinator.

The Business Development Coordinator will support and execute the business development, marketing and communication efforts of Reed Smith’s Global Regulatory Enforcement Practice Group and related subpractice areas.

The role will be based in either Washington, D.C.,Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago or New York and will report into the Practice Group’s Business Development Manager who is based in Washington, D.C. This position will also support other firmwide business development initiatives, as needed. This professional will assist the marketing department and other firm personnel with client development research projects; the preparation of tailored pitches and proposals; event planning; and coordination of other marketing and communications related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Practice Group Leaders, group attorneys, and the Business Development Manager within these groups with various initiatives as they relate to business development and profile-raising efforts associated with the Practice Groups.
  • Build strong working relationships with and maintain a high level of interaction with all attorneys and fellow Marketing Department professionals working in these practice groups throughout Reed Smith’s offices as well as attorneys in other related practice groups.
  • Assist in the development of customized pitch materials, presentations and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs); assist attorneys with presentation preparation by compiling industry-specific expertise and representative experience. Assist with drafting and editing marketing collateral, including practice area descriptions and attorney biographies for print, website and intranet; post updates to firm website and intranet as required.
  • Coordinate with the Client Intelligence team to conduct market and industry research and client analysis to identify business development opportunities.
  • Collect case/matter information and maintain databases, spreadsheets; track new business pitch opportunities in client relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Take the lead in coordination of local and national (USA) conferences, hospitality events, client seminars and sponsorships, in addition to all necessary follow up to maximize return on investment. This may also include assisting with international events.
  • Take the lead in coordinating the firm’s responses to legal directory rankings process.
  • Assist with the annual strategic planning process.
  • Attend bi-montly team and practice management meetings and be prepared to report on recent business development and marketing activity.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:  College degree in Marketing or related field required.

Experience:  Three to five years experience in a marketing-related field required, including at least one year of business development experience and demonstrated project leadership.  Law firm or professional services experience preferred. Previous marketing, public relations, events or media experience a plus, as well as an interest in and ability to understand the legal business environment, including industry terminology. Must have demonstrated experience working independently as well as within cross-functional teams in a collaborative, professional environment.

Skills:  Must be detail oriented, proactive and self-directed with ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities under tight deadlines.  Sound professional judgment and a high degree of poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts. High understanding of the marketing functions, needs and expectations of attorneys and clients. Demonstrated ability to establish effective firmwide working relationships with individuals at all levels. Strong ability to function in a collaborative organization and be a team player. Must be able to react to difficult situations quickly, effectively and diplomatically. Exceptionally strong organizational, project management and problem solving skills are required for this role. Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as willingness to learn database systems.
