Title: Director of Marketing
Firm: McCarthy Lebit
Education: University of Akron, bachelor’s degree in business and organizational communication with a major in public relations.
Where did you grow up? Solon, Ohio (Cleveland).
What was your first job? Lifeguarding for the city of Solon.
What would you be doing if you weren't in your current job? Ideally, relaxing on a beach somewhere, but, realistically, looking for another job.
What is currently on your iPod? Lots of electronic music to keep me powered up through my long runs — Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Afrojack, Zedd, Diplo, DJ Snake and Tiesto, to name a few.
Where is your favorite place to go to relax? Yoga class.
What is your favorite TV show? Favorite movie? I don’t exactly have a favorite TV show — I mostly watch HGTV and Food Network, but E! and Bravo are my guilty pleasures. I also do not have a favorite movie per se, but I’m a big fan of rom-coms because they make you laugh and warm your heart.
What is your favorite cuisine? Again, I like too many things to pick a favorite. I recently subscribed to Plated, though, and am a huge fan — it allows you to make gourmet, restaurant-quality meals in the comfort of your own home. Plus, it’s a lot of fun to learn the new recipes and to eat different foods that you otherwise may not have tried.
If you were stranded on a desert island, who or what would you want to have with you? Is there a limit to this question? I would want my dog, Lola, boyfriend, Dave, family and friends — the more the merrier. I would definitely prefer a “Gilligan’s Island” situation to a “Castaway” one.
Who are the most important people in your life? Without doubt, my family — my boyfriend, who is my best friend and partner in crime (figuratively, of course); my mom, who is the most amazing person I know and someone I aspire to be like every day; my dad, who I know I can turn to for advice in life and a solution to any problem; and my little brother, who has the biggest heart and who I would do anything for.
What is the first thing you read in the morning? Monday to Friday, my emails; Saturday and Sunday, a magazine — usually Shape, Elle or something of the like.
How did you get into legal marketing? I suppose it was a matter of chance. I was looking for a marketing and PR job, and applied for a position at a law firm, which was eventually offered to me. I’ve stayed in the field ever since.
What is the best thing about your job? That you never have to stop learning — there is always a new marketing skill to master, legal case to familiarize yourself with, and so on.
What advice would you offer a new entrant to the world of legal marketing? Remember to remain confident against all odds because at some point we all have to defend ourselves to a trial lawyer, own up to an overlooked typo and be able to juggle a million things at once. Then, everything changes at the drop of a hat and an otherwise planned day becomes a whirlwind of to-dos that you have no idea how you will manage to complete, but somehow do because you’re more like a superhero than you realize.
