How did you get into legal marketing?
My entry into the marketing end of the legal field sort of evolved over time. I started my career as a paralegal and soon found a passion for working outside that realm. My position is for a niche practice (representing community associations), so I was required to learn everything about the business before I could truly help market our services. After time, my role segued into business development, which, along with marketing, is where I focus my efforts today.

Describe one of your best experiences in legal marketing?
I am so fortunate to be able to meet so many fascinating and smart people in the legal world. I’m always thrilled to meet with prospective clients and provide an overview of our services, whether it’s at an industry event, or being contacted through our blog or website. Receiving signed engagement letters gives me a sense of accomplishment - it says they trust in us.

What is one of your greatest challenges when it comes to legal marketing?
Staying within my budget! Our group has so many events annually that I’m constantly seeing things I’d like to order to give out at our events and have to restrain myself. I also find that working with ad placements can be a challenge and tough to quantify the results.

Do you have any words of wisdom to those who are new to the field?
Trust your instincts and skills! You were hired because you bring exciting ideas and concepts to your law firm or corporation, so don’t be afraid to shine! Attend every meeting and absorb all of the great ideas put on the table. Don’t forget to participate and research in your spare time. Go ahead and send that article to your supervisor. It pays off!

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?
I appeared on a taping of Regis & Kelly Live! in 2010. I was a front row audience member a week before the actual taping and was selected by Lucky Magazine to model jeans on the following week’s taping. It was such a great experience and really forced me to step out of my comfort zone for a short time! My 3 children enjoyed seeing their mom on tv!
