Meet Karen Korr
Karen Korr
Communications Director
, San Diego County Bar Association
1. How did you start working in the legal industry?
I worked at a small public relations firm when I first moved to San Diego, and I was fortunate that one of my clients was a large law firm. I loved working with the firm because with so many attorneys and so many practice areas there were tons of great stories to uncover, and the publicity opportunities varied from day to day.
2. What advice would you offer to someone new to the industry?
Spend time talking to the attorneys and learning about their cases, and why they believe their clients choose them. Build relationships with local legal reporters, and try to become one of their “go-to” resources for finding sources.
3. Why did you join LMA and is it the same reason you are still a member?
I’m in a bit of a different position in that I don’t work for a law firm. I have been to several LMA events and I know that there is a lot than I can learn from legal marketers that I may be able to share with our membership.
4. What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
I’m 9 ½ years old (my birthday is on the 29th of February).
5. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not at work?
Spending time with friends, traveling, working out, and reading. I’m also trying to learn to speak Spanish and play the guitar.
