Washington, DC, February 10, 2016 – At the LMA Capital Chapter Member Appreciation Social, we celebrated the LMA Capital Chapter 2015 Your Honor Awards winners. The awards recognize Capital Chapter law firms that illustrate excellence in marketing and business development strategies, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the Capital Chapter and the legal marketing industry.

The LMA Capital Chapter is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Your Honor Awards program.

Big Idea: DLA Piper – “In a Flash! (A Lesson in Cybersecurity)”

DLA Piper was recognized for its movie “In a Flash! (A Lesson in Cybersecurity)” – a feature length film that is unique in the marketplace. The film was created to serve as a versatile product that could be presented at a client's office or as a panel presentation. It was designed to operate much like a law school “issue spotting” exam presenting multiple legal issues and concerns, allowing the audience the opportunity to raise questions and to engage in discussion. DLA’s goal was to create a product that clients would find engaging and that they would want to share with a larger audience including their compliance teams, audit teams, non-lawyer business professionals and Board of Directors. The film showcases DLA’s attorneys' deep cybersecurity and compliance expertise for a full hour and a half in a way that adds value and strengthens the client relationship.  No other firm or company offers a cybersecurity feature-length film to demonstrate practitioner expertise in an entertaining and interactive manner.

Capital Engagement: Katten – “Katten Cares” – Food From the Bar

Katten was recognized for the creative way in which they involved their employees in support of the Food From the Bar campaign. Katten became aware of this charitable opportunity for the Capital Area Food Bank’s Food from the Bar campaign through their marketing team’s involvement in the Legal Marketing Association Capital Chapter, which had promoted the opportunity through its Capital Ideas newsletter, at events and via social media.

Food From the Bar is the legal community’s response to hunger in Washington, DC. It is an annual month-long campaign during the month of May, in which law firms and other legal professionals compete to donate the most food and funds for the Capital Area Food Bank.

Despite getting involved with only two weeks left to the competition, the DC office immediately jumped in. The marketing team took the lead in helping to create a creative and effective program to encourage participation and attorney engagement in the effort – a regatta. All Katten personnel were invited to participate in Katten’s first regatta, which took advantage of the firm’s location on the Potomac River in Georgetown, to support the Food From the Bar campaign. Two-person kayaks raced on the Potomac for the glory of bragging rights and a grand prize of wearing jeans to the office for a full week. All Katten personnel were invited to watch their race and cheer on their favorite team. There were “entry fees” and sponsorship opportunities for the teams as well as floor fundraising competitions with a pizza party prize for the winning floor. Katten raised more than $10,000 dollars for this effort and 200 pounds of food. The money alone would provide 25,000 meals for the Capital Area Food Bank.
