Associate Business Development Manager - Mintz Levin (Boston)

The Associate Business Development Manager (“ABDM”) supports the marketing and business development activities for the Public Finance and Bankruptcy Sections.  The ABDM serves as a strategic partner to Section Management to formulate and drive all business development activities – internally and externally.

Responsibilities:

The ABDM will be the “go to person” for all attorneys in the Public Finance and Bankruptcy Sections (approximately 40 attorneys).

Respond to pitch/RFP opportunities, including customizing experience and presentation materials to address target’s needs / concerns.

Support practice leaders and partners by driving an annual business planning process (by practice and by individual) and managing follow-up throughout the year.

Provide sales training and coaching in business development skills, at both the individual and team levels.

Drive thought leadership. Work with practice groups and attorneys to identify, evaluate, and pursue speaking, publication, and social media opportunities.

Develop and monitor (with practice leader) the marketing budgets.

Review new client matters and work with Finance team to code and analyze the work we are landing in each of the relevant sections.

Plan, coordinate, and implement client seminars and firm-sponsored events.

Develop and maintain pitch materials, experience database, web content, and collateral materials.

Manage a dedicated Business Development Specialist.

Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

Travel to other offices periodically.

 Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher.

At least 5 years’ experience in marketing, sales, or business development in a professional services environment. 

The ability to develop advisory relationships with members by demonstrating: excellent oral and written communication skills; fundamental analytical skills; proactive and positive style; ability to work on own initiative; a consultative approach; ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing needs; and an understanding of our clients’ objectives and marketplace.

The ability to contribute to the growth and development of our Business Development team by: collaborating with colleagues at all levels; facilitating teamwork; and identifying opportunities to develop new processes/infrastructure.

Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and attorneys to carry out the Firm’s business development goals.

Outstanding sense of customer service, with demonstrated ability to instill this in others.

Comfortable handling and maintaining confidential information.

Must display the highest level of diplomacy, tact and discretion.

Strong sense of urgency and a high-energy level.

Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.  Ability to quickly get up to speed and master new applications and software is critical.
