Leah's summer wine picks
Summer's not over yet, and there's still time to toast the lovely weather with a refreshing alfresco vino! Over to our wine guru, Leah Bickford of Marquis Wines, for her suggested summer sips!
Rosé/Rosado/Rosato
One of the most underrated wines around. It draws great qualities from both white and red wine production. Who wouldn't want a companion that is nice to look at and best enjoyed with warm weather and BBQs? There are endless styles, with almost every major wine region producing this pink gem in various varietal expressions. Best of all, rose wines pair with a huge range of foods. Here are some great pink beauties to try out:
2015 Radio Boka Monastrell, Valencia Spain
Pale red in colour, pressed off the skins, after a 16 hours cold soak. It expresses bright notes of strawberry, raspberries and flowers. An excellent pairing with spicy and flavourful dishes.
2014 Mirabeau en Provence, South of France
Pale pink made from 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache, this is the classic example of a Provence style rosé. Its full weight and freshness make it the ideal pairing for an array of barbecue dishes.
2014 Domaine de Reuilly Pinot Gris Les Chatillons Pinot Gris Loire Valley France
This salmon coloured rosé style wine is made with brief skin contact with this grey skinned grape. Specific to this area, Reuilly is potentially the one part of France that you can find this distinctly dry style made from Pinot Gris. Its dry nature would be the ideal pairing for barbecued salmon or a strong cheese.
