Whether it’s a LinkedIn profile image, your bio photo or a group shot taken at a conference or networking event, your photos will likely be scrutinized by friends, co-workers as well as clients.
GittingsLegal has photographed thousands of lawyers over the past few decades, and we’ve put together some tactics we use during our professional photo shoots that you can try whenever you are photographed to put your best face forward every time someone takes out a camera.
It’s common for those being photographed to position their body and face directly in front of the camera. However, if you angle your body, put a little more weight on the hip furthest from the camera, and turn your head slightly, you can give your features more depth and appear slimmer. Also, do not slouch, and keep your shoulders back.
Not everyone likes to smile in photographs, but smiling makes you look friendly and approachable. Remember to smile with your eyes as well!
To avoid a double chin when smiling naturally, imagine there’s a string tied to the tip of your nose, and it’s being pulling toward the camera.
Many attorneys think they should always wear their best outfit in photos, but it’s actually better to wear clothes in which you feel confident and comfortable. Wear a color that flatters you. We suggest putting on something that you would wear to a client meeting. For the best results, this outfit should not have distracting patterns or be too revealing.
Keep these tips in mind and you will make a picture-perfect impression in your photos. Now say “cheese!”
